From body and mind to your mood and sleep–your daily routine impacts everything.
It’s the key to maintaining health, happiness, and overall life balance. According to the National Institutes of Health, “Individuals in good health engage in highly routine health behaviors. For example, those successful at maintaining weight loss often eat the same foods, engage in consistent exercise, and do not skip meals.”
When reflecting on your own day-to-day activities and how you might tweak it to better benefit your life, consider these simple basics:
What’s for breakfast?
They don’t call it the most important meal of the day for nothing. Getting the right nutrients (proteins, good grains, and fruits) bright and early can kickstart the rest of the routine. Not a breakfast person? There are a lot of people who do intermittent fasting, only eating between 12pm and 8pm. Go with your gut, as long as it works best for you and your health.
Make your moves
For many of us, much of the day requires sitting for long stretches, which takes its toll. According to Harvard Health Publishing, people sitting too long for days on end are more prone to cardiovascular health issues. So, even if you plan to head to the gym later, you should get in some movement every hour.
The art of life
In the book “Your Brain on Art,” authors Susan Magsamen and Ivy Ross make the case for making space for art in your daily routine. According to their research, creative pursuits or simply artistic appreciation can promote physical and mental health. Whether it’s laying out a gorgeous meal or simply listening to Queen Bey on repeat, even just twenty minutes a day can calm and balance you.
